Bnuusynth (codename)

Bnuusynth is an idea of digital synthesizer based on the ESP32 because I want a small battery-powered versatile box that is more powerful than a PO-33 and with a better user interface than the Korg NTS-1. I considered the MothSynth before but the lack of an audio input makes it unappealing to me as I also want it to be a sampler and effect box. It could also be a fun DIY project.

The layout aims to be rather simple and Pocket Operator-like. I'm planning to have a 4x4 button matrix (the final product may even have mechanical switches!), eventually additional buttons for "global" functions, 2 to 4 small knobs, a small LCD screen, a battery compartment, and an audio in/out, and MIDI in.

I aim to have the following features

• Modular firmware architecture to add instruments and effects (kinda like the NTS-1)
• Sampling capabilities with some memory to store the samples
• USB connectivity to flash the firmware and add modules
• USB MIDI (?)
• MIDI-in for clock sync mostly
• Effect processing

I could as well base my works on the existing MothSynth open-source synthesizer as it matches my needs with the exception of an audio input. I might need to experiment and prototype around to enhance it. I can also start over. We'll see :O
